Attorney Rodney S. Klein is the founder of Klein & Associates. He practices in the areas of tax, estate planning including trusts, wills and probate law, individual and corporate tax law before both Federal and State agencies, corporate law including corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies, and contract law. Additionally, Mr. Klein is a Rule 31 mediator for civil litigation cases.
After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Michigan and his LL.M Masters Degree in Tax Law from New York University School of Law, he served as Senior Attorney Advisor at the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. He and his family moved to Tennessee in 1993 and he has been practicing law for over twenty years. In 1995, he formed the law firm of Klein & Associates, with offices in Johnson City, Kingsport and Knoxville, Tennessee as well as Asheville, North Carolina.
Mr. Klein has been published on two occasions in the American Bar Association’s The Tax Lawyer, and has been the featured speaker at numerous seminars throughout the United States. The firm has Attorneys and Associate Counsel licensed to practice in Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, Mississippi, Michigan, the District of Columbia and the United States Tax Court.
Stephanie has been with Klein and Associates for two decades and specializes in solving complex problems for corporate and estate planning needs. She also practices in the areas of tax, probate, and contract law. She feels every client, whether a 20 million dollar company or a small estate has needs that must be filled and enjoys helping clients meet those needs. Stephanie writes extensively for our firm blog on various topics of interest to our clients.
Stephanie obtained her bachelors degree from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) and her law degree from the William and Mary School of law in Williamsburg, VA. During law school she was an intern for then, Court of Appeals Judge, Lawrence L. Koontz. Outside of work, she is a mother of two, Girl Scout leader of Troop 240, President of B’nai Sholom Congregation, and enjoys historical re-enactment, gaming, reading, and cooking.
Alicia Klein has been with the firm since its inception in 1995. Alicia has extensive experience in individual and business income tax consulting as well as business valuation services. She received the designation of Accredited Valuation Analyst (AVA) in 2001 and is currently credentialed as a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA). Utilizing a goal oriented approach, she assists our clients in the areas of business planning and succession. Alicia also serves as the firm’s chief financial officer and executive services administrator.
Alicia enjoys spending time with her and Rodney’s children and loves the outdoors including skiing, hiking and golfing. Rodney and Alicia live in Johnson City and enjoy long walks with their three labs and westie.

Sheryll Hanks has been with our firm for almost 10 years after working in the financial services field. She works directly with our estate planning clients and devotes her time to personally assist our clients, along with their other trusted advisors, their bankers, investment advisors, and insurance agents. Sheryll feels privileged to help them preserve their assets and pass along the legacies they have worked so hard throughout their lives to build.
Sheryll lives in Johnson City and outside of work enjoys spending time with her three sons. She has a passion for sports, baseball in particular- the St. Louis Cardinals! She has an appreciation for automobiles (fast and/or pretty), guns, history and live music.
Ashley M. Morgan, Paralegal
Ashley’s focus at Klein and Associates is to assist clients with their corporate and probate needs. She is a graduate of Virginia Intermont where she obtained a bachelor of arts degree in Legal Studies. While at VI, Ashley was a member of their women’s volleyball team. Ashley coaches travel volleyball and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Michele “Mikki” Culbert
Mikki brings a friendly, comfortable first point of contact to Klein and Associates. She truly enjoys helping others and is extremely organized. Her focus is maintaining schedules, communication and estate planning administrative support.
At home she loves spending time with husband, Jim, her two sons, Josh and Isaac and her two daughter-in-loves, Casey and Summer. She enjoys fly fishing, kayaking, hiking, going on adventures and gardening.
